High Tea Etiquette – Top 5 Tips

A classic but delightful experience, High Teas are one of the most relaxing ways to enjoy a Saturday or Sunday lunch in Sydney.  Regularly hosted at Doltone House Hyde Park and Sylvania Waters, indulge in bottomless sparkling wine and French teas, whilst biting down on a generous selection of sweet and savoury morsels. The social event does come with some traditions, we’re rounded up our top 5 tips to master the etiquette of High Tea.

1. Dress Code

Do dress smart casual. While most High Tea events don’t have a specific dress code, this dainty social occasion is the perfect excuse to pull out the pretty frocks.

2. All About Scones

Scones should be broken apart with the fingers, not cut with a knife and fork. Spread cream first then top with jam. Though this is a debate that will probably never settle. The Cornish tradition is jam before cream, but we find the Devon tradition of topping with jam just that little bit more Instagram-able. But personal preference really! Also never sandwich the scones back together.

3. Eating Manners

As the name suggests finger sandwiches should be eaten with your hands, but small delicate sweet morsels require a fork or dessert spoon.

4. The Way to Stir

The correct way of stirring tea is to place the spoon at the 6 o’clock position and gently stir the tea towards 12 o’clock without touching the sides of the teacup. Don’t fold the tea back and forth or side to side. After you’ve stirred the tea, place the spoon on the saucer next to the cup.

5. Pinkie

Down Contrary to popular belief, when holding the teacup keep the pinkie down!

Swap brunch for High Tea! Gather your girls for a fun gathering at Doltone House High Tea. Served with Cristina Re or V&A Fine China teaware.

5 Spectacular Corporate Cocktail Parties Themes Ideas

You’ve been tasked with planning your company’s next cocktail party. You want the party to reflect well on the company and blow guests away, but you’re not sure how to go about it. If the purpose of the party is to raise employee morale, a great place to start is with an event theme. Having a themed corporate event doesn’t just mean fancy dress. It sets a tone for your party and enables your guests to relax, have fun and express their personalities. We’ve seen some amazing themed cocktail parties at our venues over the years, but there are some that stand out from the rest. Read on to discover five of the best event themes for corporate cocktail parties.

5 Spectacular Corporate Cocktail Parties Themes Ideas - Doltone House

1. BEACH PARTY – Everyone loves a beach party, where the weather is hot, the drinks are cold, and the colours are bright. Bring the fun of summer to your corporate event, with palm trees, pool toys and rainbow coloured sea life. Life-saving towers, tiki hut bars, and tropical birds will make the perfect beach party setting.

2. FUTURISTIC – Bring the future to the present with lasers, robots, and space like styling. The key to this event theme is to go OTT on the lighting. Take your guests on an intergalactic experience and opt for glow furniture, blue lights and plenty of neon. Don’t forget to get your guests to dress to impress with their best futuristic look.

3. HOLLYWOOD – Roll out the red carpet and dazzle your guests with a night of fame and elegance that will bring out your inner star. A light up Hollywood sign is mandatory, best enhanced with oversized golden award statues, red roses, and a champagne tower. Organise a photo booth for the chance for guests to be snapped like they’re on the red carpet.

4. CIRCUS – The perfect theme for a refined occasion, we’re not talking about the kind of circus with clowns and jugglers. Go high-end with aerialist performers and roaming characters. Or perhaps you would enjoy having your drinks poured by champagne chandeliers. Retro food stands, and ticket booth buffets will complete the theme, so dress to impress and get ready to marvel at the evening’s performers.

5. MASQUERADE – This is a famous theme for all kinds of events. Style your venue to resemble an en grande masquerade hall filled with elegant lighting and plenty of texture. Feathers, draping and oversized masquerade masks will create the setting, then ask your guests to bring a mask or two for an evening of glamour and intrigue.

We Predict The Hottest Conference Trends For 2018

With the New Year upon us, we caught up with our event specialists to discuss what forward-thinking event organisers will be doing in 2018 to capture the minds of their delegates. It’s clear that the past year was an innovative one for the events industry, where the use of technology to promote engagement continued to rise.

We’ve seen the introduction of virtual reality, and an increasing focus on ‘experiential events’ as a means of capturing the attention of delegates and promoting social sharing. Based on our observations, we’ve identified six key trends that we think are set to shape events in 2018. Read on to discover what’s hot right now in the areas of tech, experiential activities, venues, catering, and health.

The Hottest Conference Trends For 2018 - Predicted by Doltone House

1. Technology – virtual reality and artificial intelligence will continue to grow in popularity as businesses test new ways to amplify engagement. We will be looking at more personalised event experiences this coming year, using tech to gather attendee feedback and patterns of activity. We predict Event Profs will incorporate more interactive items into their programmes, from event-specific apps to crowd-responsive lighting – all aimed at creating a truly immersive experience.

2. Experiential activities – stemming from the same trend towards increasing delegate engagement, we predict an even greater move towards experientially led events in the coming year. Experiences that cater to the desire of delegates to share something exciting on social media will continue to rise. Whether it’s an interactive culinary experience, team building activity or an immersive photo area like the @museumoficecream or @wearehappyplace, the guest experience will continue to be the focus for business events.

3. Unique venues – clients are increasingly looking for unique venues to make a bold and memorable statement for their event. An out-of-the-box venue with outdoor meeting areas will facilitate more positive event experiences for corporates, where breakout spaces will be an attractive feature. Venues with a view and venues with inspiring interiors will be highly sought after. However, convenience will remain an important consideration.

4. Innovative food – high quality and healthy food options will continue to be a focus for event planners. Expectations are high, which will continue to encourage caterers to push their creativity and develop exciting menus. Whether it’s a themed menu, styled food station or personalised presentation that matches the client’s brand colours, Event Profs will look for more opportunities to create a more memorable experience with a sense of theatre.

The Hottest Conference Trends For 2018 - Predicted by Doltone House

5. Health – wellbeing and mindfulness continue to be a hot trend for corporate events as companies try to achieve a better balance between work and fun for their delegates. We expect to see more event planners organising event chill out zones, healthy food options and WiFi dead zones to help give attendees a chance to take breaks and promote relaxation. We predict more business events will also incorporate optional activities like yoga, meditation and mindfulness workshops pre and post event.

So there you have it. For event planners who want to discover new successes with their corporate events, there is a strong need to address technology trends, audience engagement and opportunities for promoting health and wellbeing. A Wedding In The Clouds For Vicky & George

Vicky and George celebrated their wedding day at Doltone House Sylvania Waters with an opulent white and gold reception in the Monte Cristo Lounge. It was the perfect balance between traditional and modern, with fresh white florals, sparkling chandeliers, and a custom drop crystal backdrop. Working with Bling Events, Vicky wanted their wedding to be unique and luxurious, where when their guests entered, they would be transported to a place that felt like heaven.

The Proposal

Vicky and George had been friends for years before it turned into something much more. Within three months of dating, George surprised Vicky at her home, organising a chauffeur in a Maserati to pick them up and take them to a secret location. The location was the penthouse hotel room of The Darling, which was decorated with hundreds of red roses, scattered petals, and candles. There was a new cocktail dress already in the room for Vicky to change into. When she re-entered the room, George was standing among the roses. He then got down on one knee and asked Vicky to marry him.

The Ceremony

The wedding ceremony of Vicky and George took place at the Greek Orthodox Church in Belmore. Both Vicky and George said they won’t ever forget the moment the church doors opened, and she began walking down the aisle. Overwhelmed with emotion and excitement, they said it’s hard to express the feeling of that moment in words.

The Wedding

Coming from a Greek and Cypriot background, Vicky said selecting their wedding venue was one of their most important wedding decisions. They chose Doltone House Sylvania Waters because it aligned with their vision, the service was impeccable, and the menus were delicious. They wanted their family and friends to have an amazing time, and the quality of food and entertainment was very important.

The Styling

Vicky wanted a wedding that was unique from other weddings, but which was luxurious, classy and heaven-like. She enlisted the help of Bling Events to help bring her vision to life with white chairs, white linen, white florals and plenty of crystal. The floral arrangements were made up of white roses and orchids, which they suspended above guest tables and to look like clouds. They had chandeliers strung up throughout the venue, a custom drop crystal backdrop and crystal candelabras on the guest tables to add some bling.

Planning Tips

The best piece of advice Vicky and George could offer new couples planning their wedding would be to take one thing at a time. “Try not to stress, as it’s so easy to get overwhelmed. Remember why you are getting married, enjoy the moment and have a laugh and party like crazy at the reception!”
