A DIY Wedding Inspired by Travel for Charlotte and Mitchell

The story of Charlotte and Mitchell comes down to fate! Originally from the UK, Charlotte met Mitchell (a young soccer star) while working in a soccer centre on the NSW Central Coast. They had been dating for three years and were now living in Japan when he popped the question.

Mitch had been planning the proposal for months and had already purchased the ring before they moved, which he left behind with his sister and a plan. Charlotte and Mitchell organised a trip to the island of Okinawa, where Mitch’s sister and brother in law were joining them with the precious cargo. On the day they arrived in Okinawa, they went on a walk to a stunning waterfall and waiting until they were alone, Mitch got on one knee and asked Charlotte to marry him.

She says she was on cloud nine after that, and she’s been there ever since. The wedding of Charlotte and Mitchell took place at Jones Bay Wharf on Sydney Harbour. She said she chose the venue for its stunning location as they had many people coming from overseas and for some it was their first visit to Sydney.

Given their experiences, and the fact that Charlotte had all her family, friends and bridesmaids coming from England, the style of their wedding followed a ‘travel theme’. They had a red post box as a wishing well, a globe as the guestbook and all the tables were named after towns and cities her and Mitch had visited. They even had a map of the world on their wedding cake, made out from gold leaf.

When we asked Charlotte what one wedding day moment would last with her forever, she said it was the vows. They wrote their own vows, which she said made their ceremony very personal. Her words of wisdom for couples planning their weddings “research properly, don’t just jump in with the first dress or the first florist you see or speak to. Research what you really want, the style you really like, this day will last with you forever and you don’t want to have any regrets”

Charlotte and Mitchell are looking forward to travelling the world together. They hope to live in as many different places as possible with their young son.
